Are you a current student or recent alumni interested in innovation? Do you have a potential business idea? Are you in the early stages of developing a business product and need some additional support and funding? If so, the Nova Scotia Sandboxes Innovation Bootcamps might be a great opportunity for you!
The first bootcamp, Introduction to Innovation, runs from May 1st – May 25th and is aimed at those new to the innovation process. Individuals or teams may apply to the program but individual participants will form/join a team early in the program to work on a specific idea for the remainder of the bootcamp. The first two weeks will be held at Acadia University as a full-time residency and participants will attend, in-person, a variety of workshops, talks, and seminars focused on Design Thinking and Innovation. All food and accommodations will be covered by the program for this 2-week period. In week 3, participants will return to their home sandbox location and receive support to apply concepts learned in the first two weeks. In week 4, participants will attend pitch training workshops and prepare a final presentation delivered to judges and other bootcamp stakeholders. The most promising teams will receive prize monies from a $15,000 pooled fund to further advance the idea.
The second bootcamp, Project Incubation, runs from June 5th – August 25th and is aimed at teams of up to 3 founding members who are in the early stages of developing a product with some business potential. In week 1, teams will be assigned a mentor and work out of their home sandbox to establish a baseline assessment of the business/product. In weeks 2–11, teams work for approximately 20 hours per week to advance the product, meet occasionally with their mentor, and participate in innovation-focused workshops. Each participant is paid a salary of $1050 a month (i.e. approximate equivalent of 1/2 typical co-op salary wages) for the duration of the program. In week 12, each team will prepare a final presentation and demo of their product to judges and other bootcamp stakeholders. The most promising teams will receive prize monies from a $50,000 pooled fund to further advance the product.
Each bootcamp is accepting 40 applications from current NS post-secondary students / recent alumni until
